NVIDIA advances AI graphics with DLSS 5 and Mega Geometry 2.0
NVIDIA is advancing its graphics technology through the rollout of DLSS 5 and the RTX Mega Geometry 2.0 SDK. DLSS 5 utilizes artificial intelligence to dynamically enhance video game scenes by improving lighting, textures, and geometry in real-time. While some users report bizarre or unpleasant visual results when applied to older titles, the technology is being integrated into modern games like NBA 2K27 and Red Dead Redemption 2.
NVIDIA also released the RTX Mega Geometry 2.0 SDK, which aims to bridge the gap between high-density Nanite-style geometry and ray tracing. This tool allows for streaming continuous level-of-detail clusters, enabling complex scenes to fit within GPU memory limits. The technology is expected to debut in Gears of War: E-Day.
In the hardware market, the GeForce RTX 5090 is facing supply challenges and significant price increases. Reports indicate that high demand from the enterprise and AI sectors, combined with rising memory chip costs, has led to scarcity for gaming consumers. Some marketplace listings have seen prices surge significantly above the original MSRP, with some units reaching as high as $9,500.
