GPU prices surge as RTX 5090 hits massive premiums

Graphics card prices have experienced a significant surge, with market averages rising by 15% within a single month. According to reports from TechSpot, the Nvidia GeForce line saw an average increase of 19%, while AMD Radeon cards rose by 11%.

The most dramatic price hike is seen in the Nvidia RTX 5090. While its manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) is $1,999, it is currently trading at approximately $5,000 in the US, representing a massive premium. In France, retailers are listing the card for around €4,900.

Analysts attribute this volatility primarily to the rising cost of GDDR7 memory chips. The demand for these components is being driven heavily by the AI sector, which utilizes similar high-performance memory for servers. This supply shift is creating a scarcity effect similar to previous RAM shortages.

Other models are also affected; the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB is seeing premiums as high as 70% above MSRP, and the RTX 5070 has risen by 20% in one month. While AMD's Radeon cards have seen lower price increases due to their use of GDDR6, analysts suggest they currently offer better value than the GeForce line.
