Gračanica women protest Nedim Avdić sentence
A group of women from Gračanica, supported by various organizations and activists from Tuzla Canton and Bosnia and Herzegovina, has issued a protest note to judicial institutions regarding the sentence of Nedim Avdić. Avdić was sentenced to one year in prison following a plea agreement for human trafficking involving the sexual exploitation of two underage girls.
The protesters have addressed the note to the President of the Cantonal Court in Tuzla, the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH, and the Chief Cantonal Prosecutor. They are demanding a public explanation for the sentence, including the criteria used for determining the sanction and the reasons for accepting the plea agreement.
Concerns were raised regarding the adequacy of child protection and the message sent to victims of sexual violence, particularly as Avdić was released from custody following the verdict. The broader criminal proceeding involves 12 defendants, including seven police officers from the Tuzla Canton Ministry of Internal Affairs, while proceedings against the remaining 11 individuals continue.
