Grab Indonesia reports 24-fold mask demand surge due to volcanic ash
Demand for face masks via GrabMart in Indonesia surged 24-fold between September 5 and September 8, 2026, due to declining air quality caused by volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau. The spike in demand was most notable in DKI Jakarta, Banten, West Java, and Lampung.
In response to the environmental conditions, Grab Indonesia has distributed thousands of masks to driver partners at high-mobility locations, including Tanah Abang Station, Fatmawati MRT Station, Lebak Bulus MRT Station, and Tangerang Station. The company is also providing safety education through its application to two-wheel drivers, four-wheel drivers, and merchants, recommending the use of KN95 masks and protective eyewear for those working outdoors.
