Grabow hosts 35th Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Harvest Festival

The 35th Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Harvest Festival (Landeserntedankfest) is being held in Grabow from October 2 to 4. Under the motto ‘Tüffeln, Trecker un Tohuus’ (Potatoes, Tractors, and Home), the event aims to highlight the connection between agriculture, regional products, and rural identity.

Agriculture Minister Dr. Till Backhaus noted that while the 2026 harvest shows varied yields—with winter wheat at 84.5 decitonnes per hectare and rapeseed at a weaker 29 decitonnes—high production costs present a challenge. Backhaus emphasized that a good harvest does not always equate to a profitable year, citing rising costs for fertilizer, energy, and machinery repairs, which have increased significantly since 2022.

Mayor Kathleen Bartels described the hosting of the festival as a great honor for the small municipality, made possible through a network involving the district, the farmers' association, and local organizations. The festival focuses on traditional programming, showcasing the people and products of the rural region.
