Grabrovnica hosts Lužđana traditional corn husking event

The women's association Guščarice from Grabrovnica organized the cultural and traditional manifestation ‘Lužđana’ at Petrov vrt. The event revives the old autumn custom of ‘lužđenje’, which involves the manual removal of corn husks from the cobs after harvest.

Historically, this was a significant social event that brought neighbors, relatives, and friends together to work collectively before winter, followed by social gatherings with music and food. This year's event included a corn husking competition to showcase traditional rural life and preserve ancestral customs for new generations.

The manifestation was attended by Marijo Klement, Deputy Prefect, and Dinko Begović, President of the Virovitica-Podravina County Assembly, who provided support for the preservation of the region's cultural and traditional heritage.
