Graciela Diéguez becomes first female mayor of Viana do Bolo

Graciela Diéguez has become the first female mayor of Viana do Bolo, marking a historic milestone for the municipality in Galicia, Spain. A member of the BNG (Bloque Nacionalista Galego), Diéguez assumed office following an agreement between the BNG and the PSdeG (Socialist Party of Galicia).

The leadership transition follows a rotating mandate established after a motion of censure in September 2025. Diéguez succeeds Germán García-Ávila, a socialist who served for eleven months. She is expected to hold the position until the municipal elections in May 2027.

During her inauguration, Diéguez expressed her commitment to transparency, efficiency in managing public funds, and equality for all residents, including new immigrants. She also addressed the community's need to recover from severe flooding that occurred in June.
