Gracindo Júnior, Brazilian actor and TV Globo pioneer, dies at 83

Brazilian actor and director Gracindo Júnior has died at the age of 83. He passed away from natural causes at his residence in Rio de Janeiro.

Gracindo Júnior had a career spanning over five decades across radio, theater, cinema, and television. He was a pioneer of Brazilian broadcasting, having been part of the original cast of TV Globo when it launched in 1965. His notable works include roles in telenovelas such as ‘O Casarão’, ‘O Bem-Amado’, and ‘Dona Beija’. Beyond acting, he was a respected director, notably overseeing the humor program ‘Os Trapalhões’.

The son of the renowned actor Paulo Gracindo, he often shared the screen with his father, including playing different stages of the same character in ‘O Casarão’. He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Daisy Poli, and five children, several of whom have also pursued careers in the arts.

Public funeral services were scheduled for September 3 at the Penitência Cemetery and Crematorium in Rio de Janeiro.
