Gradiška border crossing reopening uncertain

Local businesses in Gradiška are facing significant economic hardship due to the continued closure of the old border crossing. Business owners report that revenues have been halved and once-busy streets are now nearly empty, leading to widespread uncertainty about the city's economic future.

Gradiška Mayor Zoran Adžić is advocating for the old bridge to be reopened as an international border crossing for passenger cars and buses, which would allow heavy truck traffic to be diverted away from the city center. He has also called for the Croatian side to open an integrated border crossing to support local development and tourism.

While a contract for the design and planning documentation for the renovation of both overpasses was signed 15 days ago with a 60-day deadline, authorities suggest that traffic might be permitted through the old crossing before the full renovation is completed. A commission has been formed to provide recommendations on the necessary works to facilitate this.
