Graeme McDowell confirms departure from LIV Golf
Graeme McDowell has announced he will not pursue ‘LIV 2.0’, the proposed relaunch of the breakaway golf league scheduled for 2027. The 47-year-old former US Open champion confirmed his decision via social media, stating he is grateful for his time with the league but is looking forward to the next chapter of his career.
McDowell joins a growing list of high-profile players exiting the circuit, including Jon Rahm, Louis Oosthuizen, Tyrrell Hatton, Ian Poulter, and Sergio Garcia. His fellow Northern Irish golfer, Tom McKibbin, also recently announced an exit to return to the DP World Tour.
The league's instability follows the withdrawal of backing from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund in April, which had previously invested over $5 billion. This led to LIV Golf filing for bankruptcy protection in the United States last month. While the league has secured potential financing of $300 million from BC Partners Credit to facilitate its relaunch, player commitment remains limited.
