Graeme Souness slams Rangers' recruitment as inadequate
Former Rangers manager Graeme Souness said the club’s recent recruitment “has not been good enough”, arguing that only people with playing experience should make football decisions. He criticised the period when CEO Patrick Stewart and sporting director Kevin Thelwell were in charge, describing their sign‑on strategy as driven by statistics rather than on‑field insight.
Rangers finished third in last season’s Scottish Premiership and lost four of their final five matches. After a poor start, Stewart and Thelwell were dismissed in November. New manager Derek McInnes, appointed in June, has begun rebuilding, naming Lawrence Shankland as club captain and targeting new signings such as Japanese winger Daisuke Yokota.
