Grafing Mayor Christian Bauer dies after collapsing during meeting
Christian Bauer, the Mayor of Grafing in Bavaria, died on Tuesday evening at the age of 57 after collapsing during a construction committee meeting. Bauer, a member of the CSU, had recently recovered from pneumonia and had chosen to lead the session himself because his deputy was also ill.
Following his sudden loss of consciousness, committee members provided immediate first aid. Emergency responders and a doctor arrived shortly after to perform resuscitation efforts, which continued during transport to the Klinikum Ebersberg München Ost. Due to the location of the meeting on an upper floor, firefighters used a turntable ladder to evacuate him through a large window. Despite these intensive efforts, Bauer could not be saved.
The news has caused profound shock in the Ebersberg district. Local officials, including District Administrator Robert Niedergesäß, expressed their dismay. The city of Grafing announced that the second and third mayors will temporarily manage administrative duties until a new election can be held.
