Graham wins £74 million Didcot‑Culham road and river crossing contract for Oxfordshire

Oxfordshire County Council has awarded construction firm Graham a £74 million contract to build a 3.6 km single‑carriageway linking the A4130 at Didcot with the A415 at Culham. The scheme includes two new bridges – one over the Appleford railway sidings and another over the River Thames – and provides segregated walking and cycling routes. It is the final package in a £330 million Housing Infrastructure Fund programme aimed at easing congestion, supporting new housing and improving public‑transport reliability in the Didcot area.

Graham will also continue work on the nearby Clifton Hampden bypass, while the separate Didcot Science Bridge project has been given to VolkerFitzpatrick. Construction is expected to last about two and a half years. Funding comes from a mix of Homes England grants, Enterprise Oxfordshire investment, developer contributions and the council’s capital budget. Council cabinet member for highways construction and repair Liz Leffman said the new crossing will "significantly reduce congestion" and provide a safe route for walkers and cyclists.
