Grain markets fluctuate amid Black Sea risks and USDA report anticipation

Global grain markets are experiencing volatility as traders prepare for the upcoming USDA supply and demand report. Wheat futures have seen gains driven by increased fund activity and ongoing export delays in the Black Sea region due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Soybean markets are reacting to a mix of factors, including Chinese import data and weather concerns in key U.S. growing areas. While China's August soybean imports fell 1.1% year-over-year, recent purchases and concerns over hot, dry weather have provided some support to prices. Meanwhile, early planting for the 2026/27 soybean crop has commenced in Brazil.

Corn markets face downward pressure as traders anticipate lower yield projections in the upcoming USDA report. While demand remains solid, high prices have raised concerns regarding livestock feed usage. Market analysts note that while investment funds hold record long positions in corn and meal, significant price increases may require confirmation from the physical cash market.
