GrainGrowers opens membership to state farming organisations

GrainGrowers members have approved constitutional changes that allow state farming organisations (SFOs) to join the national organization for the first time. This shift aims to reshape national grain industry representation.

Under the new rules, each region's National Policy Group can include up to two representatives from SFOs and three elected growers. In regions lacking an SFO member, up to five elected growers may participate. Grain Producers South Australia has already signed up to join, while AgForce is currently in the process of doing so.

Historically, SFOs and their grain councils have primarily joined Grain Producers Australia (GPA). The decision to open membership to state bodies follows memorandums of understanding signed earlier this year between GrainGrowers and groups such as NSW Farmers.

Additionally, GrainGrowers chief executive Shona Gawel has announced her resignation, stating she will complete her term before Christmas 2026.
