Gram Parsons, a highly influential musician known for blending rock and country music, died on September 19, 1973, at the age of 26 due to a drug and alcohol overdose. His work with groups such as The Byrds and the Flying Burrito Brothers helped establish the country-rock genre, influencing later artists like the Eagles.

Following his death, a controversy arose when his tour manager, Phil Kaufman, stole Parsons’ body from Los Angeles International Airport. The theft occurred while the body was being prepared for transport to Louisiana, where his family intended to bury him, contrary to the singer's own wishes.
