Grammy album submissions surge as artists debate AI categories

Album submissions for the 2027 Grammy Awards have seen a significant surge, with 119 albums submitted, marking a 63.01% increase from the 73 submissions recorded in 2026. This figure represents the highest annual volume within a five-year period (2023–2027), accounting for nearly 30% of all submissions made during that timeframe.

Amidst this growth, Jamaican reggae artist Chronixx has called for the establishment of a separate Grammy category specifically for albums created using large language models and machine learning. The proposal addresses ongoing industry debates regarding how to distinguish human artistry from machine-made music as artificial intelligence technology becomes more integrated into the recording and promotional processes.
