Gran Canaria allocates over 628,000 euros for residential solar energy

The Gran Canaria Insular Energy Council (CIEGC) has distributed over 628,000 euros in self-consumption subsidies to 316 homes as part of the 2025 grant program. These funds support the installation of solar panels and energy storage systems.

The initiative has resulted in the installation of 2,418 solar panels, adding approximately 1.56 megawatts of new photovoltaic power to residential properties on the island. While the initial reference for calculating subsidies was 1.26 megawatts, the final installed capacity exceeded this due to regulations allowing beneficiaries to install more power than originally covered.

Under the 2025 program, which had an initial budget of 700,000 euros, households can receive 500 euros per kilowatt of installed photovoltaic power, up to a maximum of 3,000 euros per home. Additionally, those incorporating storage systems can receive 300 euros per kilowatt-hour, up to an extra 1,000 euros.
