Gran Canaria drug bust leads to nine arrests for hashish trafficking
Nine individuals have been placed in provisional prison following a drug trafficking operation in Castillo del Romeral, south of Gran Canaria. The suspects were apprehended in possession of a significant quantity of hashish, which they had transported to the Canary Islands coast via an inflatable boat intended for illicit sale.
The operation was the result of a joint investigation by the Policía Nacional and the Guardia Civil, who had been monitoring the suspected criminal organization for some time. The investigation is currently being led by Magistrate Florencio Barrera Espinel of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Court.
The arrests were triggered after a local resident reported seeing a suspicious inflatable boat grounded on rocks near a beach. Although the vessel was found empty upon initial inspection by the Guardia Civil, subsequent investigations linked the craft to the drug smuggling attempt.
