Gran Canaria official warns of Moroccan investment in Boluda
Antonio Morales, president of the Gran Canaria Cabildo, has raised concerns regarding the potential acquisition of a 45% stake in Boluda Maritime Terminals by the Moroccan state-owned port company, Marsa Maroc.
The transaction, which was announced in December 2025, is currently awaiting authorization from the Foreign Investment Board. Morales warned that the deal could impact the operations of the Port of La Luz and the Port of Las Palmas by potentially allowing Moroccan interests to participate in the decision-making bodies of Canary Islands port authorities.
The investigation is being conducted under the legal framework that requires non-EU entities to obtain specific state permission for investments in strategic sectors. Morales has requested that the Ministry of Industry analyze the operation with extreme scrutiny to determine if it falls under the suspension of the foreign investment liberalization regime.
