Gran Canaria road closures announced for August viaduct repairs and GC-1 undergrounding
The viaducto del Guiniguada in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria will remain closed for the entire month of August. Traffic will be limited to the northbound direction during the first half of the month and to the southbound direction during the second half while the authorities install a high‑resistance waterproofing layer after discovering that 16 steel tendons had collapsed. About 120 tonnes of asphalt sheet are stored at the port for the work.
Separately, the neighbourhood around the Belén María roundabout will be closed to traffic on Saturday 1 August and Sunday 2 August from 08:00 to 18:00. The closure is part of the GC‑1 undergrounding project and involves dismantling lighting towers on the median. The southbound lane of the GC‑1 at Avenida Marítima will be affected, with alternative routes sign‑posted and emergency vehicles directed via Calle Juan Rejón.
Both measures are coordinated by the Consejería de Obras Públicas, Vivienda y Movilidad of the Government of the Canary Islands to improve safety and long‑term traffic flow in the capital.
