Gran Canaria suspends all public and private activities due to Storm Bruna

The Gran Canaria Island Council has ordered the suspension of all public and private organized activities starting at 12:00 on Sunday, November 8, due to the high-impact Storm Bruna. The measure applies to all events involving people, regardless of capacity, in both indoor and outdoor settings. This includes cultural, sporting, recreational, and festive activities.

The decision follows orange-level weather warnings from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) for several Canary Islands, including La Palma, El Hierro, La Gomera, and Tenerife. Forecasters predict intense rainfall, with potential totals exceeding 100 liters per square meter in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and 80 liters per square meter in Gran Canaria, alongside strong winds and storms.

Several specific events have already been impacted, including the postponement of the UD Las Palmas versus Eldense football match and the cancellation of a Víctor Manuel concert at the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium. Essential services and emergency management activities are exempt from the suspension.
