Gran Retto Open Water Swimming event concludes in Varadero

The fifth edition of the Gran Retto Open Water Swimming event concluded in Varadero, Cuba, featuring over 200 competitors from Cuba, Mexico, and Ecuador. The competition spanned two days and included various distances ranging from 1.5 to 10 kilometers.

In the 10-kilometer championship race, which served as the fourth stop of the Panam Aquatics Open Water Series, Mexican swimmer Ramsés Miranda Vidal secured the men's victory. Cuban swimmer Dainellys Martínez Matos won the women's 10-kilometer event. Other notable winners included Jean Carlos Pérez and Claudia Gurri for the 5-kilometer distance, and Jairo Brito for the 3-kilometer race.

The event is noted for its organizational stability despite broader economic and energy challenges in Cuba. The successful hosting of the Panam Aquatics Series stop may facilitate Cuba's permanent integration into the international circuit.
