Gran Teatre del Liceu presents Bellini’s ‘I Capuleti e i Montecchi’

The Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona will stage Bellini’s opera ‘I Capuleti e i Montecchi’ from October 30 to November 11. This production marks the return of conductor Riccardo Frizza to the venue for this specific masterpiece, ten years after his previous conducting of the work at the Liceu.

Directed by Allex Aguilera, the production features a symbolic set design including a monumental rotating frame and a representation of the river in Verona to provide narrative fluidity. The staging aims to highlight the political dimensions of the tragedy, portraying Juliet as a reflective character who balances her love with her duty to her homeland.

The cast is led by Lisette Oropesa and Raffaella Lupinacci in the principal roles. Performances will be available via the Liceu OPERA+ service starting November 22.
