Gran Tulum Aqueduct investigation faces jurisdictional challenge
A judicial investigation into alleged irregularities regarding the construction of the Gran Tulum Aqueduct has entered a new phase. During a formalization hearing that was suspended, former president of Obras Sanitarias Sociedad del Estado (OSSE), Sergio Ruiz, claimed the motivations behind the case are “political.”
Ruiz’s legal defense has challenged the jurisdiction of the provincial courts, requesting that the case be transferred to federal jurisdiction. Federal Judge Daniel Rafecas has ordered reports on the provincial file following this request. Defense attorney Mohamed Nasser Uzair criticized the investigation as a “false, rigged process” and alleged selectivity in how officials are being summoned, questioning the competence of the current prosecutor and judge.
