Granada court to trial ‘los Gallos’ drug trafficking clan
The Audiencia de Granada will begin a major trial on October 8 involving 19 individuals accused of involvement in a large-scale drug trafficking network known as the ‘los Gallos’ clan. The prosecution is seeking prison sentences of up to 18 years for the seven primary defendants, who are members of the same family.
According to the prosecution, the group operated between August 2021 and May 2023, managing the cultivation, production, and distribution of marijuana, as well as the acquisition of cocaine. Their operations spanned several locations, including Valle del Zalabí, Benalúa de Guadix, and Guadix, utilizing houses, warehouses, and garages for plantations.
The investigation, stemming from the ‘Nazarí Ordo Alcosto’ operation conducted by the Guardia Civil in May 2023, revealed that the group used encrypted applications and coded language to evade surveillance. They also employed lookout points and allegedly used electricians to perform illegal connections to power the crops. Police seizures during the initial operation included 1,582 cannabis plants, marijuana, cocaine, weapons, ammunition, and over 22,000 euros in cash.
