Granada cultural institutions face funding disputes and structural changes

The PSOE political group in Granada has called on the Junta de Andalucía to double its financial contributions to the Centro Federico García Lorca in upcoming budgets. Spokesperson Raquel Ruz criticized the regional government for a perceived lack of support compared to other Andalusian cultural sites, noting that while the City Council, the Provincial Council, and the Ministry of Culture have increased their funding, the Junta only provided a 25% increase.

Simultaneously, the Granada 2031 European Capital of Culture candidacy has gained institutional momentum. The Junta de Andalucía has officially joined the project's consortium following a modification of its statutes. The new governance structure includes six institutions: the Granada City Council, the Junta de Andalucía, the Provincial Council of Granada, the University of Granada, the Granada Chamber of Commerce, and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). Under this new arrangement, the Mayor of Granada will maintain the presidency, with vice-presidencies assigned to the Junta, the Provincial Council, and the University.
