Fundación Unicaja opens Goya exhibition in Granada

The Fundación Unicaja has launched its new cultural center in Granada with the exhibition ‘La sombra de Goya’ (The Shadow of Goya), which will run until 2027. The exhibition features over 60 works, including oils, drawings, and print series, exploring the profound influence of Francisco de Goya on 19th and 20th-century artists.

Begoña Torres, director of the Museo Lázaro Galdiano and curator of the exhibition, highlights Goya’s complex legacy as an individualist and anti-academic painter who was both admired and feared by his contemporaries. The collection includes original works and pieces from artists who were influenced by his style.

The exhibition is organized into six thematic areas: Religion, Portraiture, Customs, Bullfighting, Caprichos, and War. It aims to foster community participation through guided tours, lectures, and workshops, linking Goya’s artistic history to the cultural identity of Granada.
