Granada Mayor visits Ceuta to boost AI research and cultural cooperation

Marifrán Carazo, the Mayor of Granada, is conducting an institutional visit to Ceuta to strengthen historical ties and expand cooperation in culture, knowledge, and innovation. The visit includes participating in the 2026/27 academic year inauguration at the University of Granada’s Ceuta Campus alongside Rector Pedro Mercado.

A key component of the visit is the inauguration of the new headquarters for the AI Granada Research & Innovation Foundation and the Ceuta ‘IATEB’ Chair in Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies for Wellbeing. These entities will share space on the university campus to foster an artificial intelligence ecosystem, connecting businesses, public administrations, and local talent.

Additionally, Ceuta is expected to sign a manifesto supporting Granada’s candidacy for the 2031 European Capital of Culture. The two cities are also moving forward with a formal twinning process to be approved by the Ceuta Assembly and the Granada City Council.
