Granada province features diverse landscapes and Roman-era thermal springs

The Granada province in Spain offers diverse landscapes and historical sites, ranging from the mountainous Alpujarra region to the thermal springs of Zújar.

The Alpujarra Granadina, located on the southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada, is characterized by its unique architecture, specifically the ‘terrao’—flat roofs sealed with launa clay. This region is part of the Sierra Nevada National Park and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, where the landscape is shaped by altitude, traditional irrigation, and snowmelt.

In northern Granada, the town of Zújar features thermal springs that have been utilized since Roman times. While the original Roman bath complexes are now submerged beneath the Negratín Reservoir, the natural springs continue to flow at temperatures above 38 degrees Celsius. The modern Balneario de los Baños de Zújar utilizes these mineral-medicinal waters, which were officially recognized for their medicinal properties in 1928.
