Granada region experiences minor earthquakes

A series of minor earthquakes occurred in the Granada region of Spain on Sunday morning, causing alarm among residents in the metropolitan area and surrounding towns.

The National Geographic Institute (IGN) reported a magnitude 1.9 earthquake at 08:38 hours, centered in Vegas del Genil at a shallow depth of 3 kilometers. This tremor was felt with an intensity of III-IV. Other reports indicated a magnitude 2.8 earthquake with an epicenter in Cájar, which residents described as acting like an “alarm clock” as it woke them up.

These movements are part of an ongoing seismic series that has affected Granada for the past two months. The IGN noted several smaller preceding movements earlier in the morning. Experts suggest that while tremors are still being felt, the seismic series is losing intensity in terms of frequency and magnitude, which is considered a normal part of the exhaustion phase of such activity.
