Granada seismic activity prompts school earthquake preparedness training

The province of Granada has experienced an active seismic series since mid-August, with official records indicating more than 1,700 earthquakes in the area. While many tremors have been of low magnitude and barely felt, significant events occurred on August 15 and 18, with magnitudes reaching 4.8, 4.2, and 4.0. These stronger tremors caused alarm, led to the temporary evacuation of approximately 600 people, and resulted in property damage.

In response to the ongoing activity, the Emergency Agency of Andalusia (EMA) and the Andalusian Institute of Geophysics and Seismic Disaster Prevention (Iagpds) of the University of Granada organized an information session for the educational community. The event, attended by representatives from over 300 educational centers, focused on providing scientific information regarding the seismic series, reinforcing self-protection measures within schools, and offering tools to help children and adolescents manage the fear and uncertainty caused by the tremors.
