Granada University pool renovation completed after €5.3 million upgrade
The University of Granada’s Fuentenueva campus pool, the city’s only Olympic‑size facility, has been fully renovated. The project, funded with an investment of €5.325 million, was carried out as a compensatory measure linked to the construction of the Granada Metro through the campus. Officials including Regional Minister Rocío Díaz, Mayor Marifrán Carazo and University Rector Pedro Mercado attended the inauguration, highlighting the modern, year‑round use of the covered swimming pool.
The refurbishment, delayed by a 2019 pause and a basement fire in January, included a new roof and updated equipment to meet high‑quality standards. The pool, closed since 2012, will now serve both university students and the wider Granada community.
The project is part of a broader €20 million effort to address pending compensatory works associated with the metro development.
