Granatieri di Sardegna hold 36th national gathering in Spoleto
The city of Spoleto hosted the 36th national gathering of the Granatieri di Sardegna, the oldest infantry specialty of the Italian Army, which dates back to 1659. The event featured parades through the city streets, historical reenactments, and musical performances, drawing significant crowds of citizens and tourists.
The gathering emphasized themes of memory, service, and national identity. Beyond military tradition, the event highlighted the historical bond between the Granatieri and the Umbria region, noting the unit's role in providing aid to local populations during the earthquakes of 1997 and 2016. Cultural activities included a historical carousel in Piazza Duomo and a concert by the Granatieri musical band at the Teatro Caio Melisso.
