Grand Blanc church begins rebuilding one year after fatal attack

One year after a violent attack on a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel in Grand Blanc, Michigan, congregants are beginning to rebuild. On September 28, 2025, an attacker drove a pickup truck into the meetinghouse during a Sunday service, started a fire, and opened fire on those inside. The incident resulted in four deaths and eight injuries.

To mark the anniversary, members of the congregation gathered for a ceremony to break ground on a new house of worship, which will be constructed on the same plot of land as the original building. Church leaders, including Stake President Marcelino Sanchez and Bishop Jeffrey Schaub, noted the community's resilience and the widespread support received from both local members and the global church community following the tragedy.
