Grand Canyon National Park announces seasonal North Rim changes
Grand Canyon National Park is preparing for seasonal transitions at its North Rim. Starting October 15, the North Rim Lodge, main concessions, visitor center, and overnight lodging will close for the season. The area will transition to day-use status through November 30, allowing access to scenic viewpoints and hiking trails from sunrise to sunset, though commercial services like food and gas will be extremely limited.
Travelers driving from Sedona to the Grand Canyon South Rim via RV are advised to use AZ-179 south to I-17 North to Flagstaff. While the AZ-89A route through Oak Creek Canyon is scenic, its switchbacks are not recommended for large rigs or towables. Visitors to the North Rim during the late season are encouraged to be self-reliant, as emergency services and ranger patrols are scaled back significantly during this period.
