Grand Corps Malade discusses life in Montréal and views on France

French slam poet Grand Corps Malade, born Fabien Marsaud, has shared insights regarding his recent year-long relocation to Montréal, Canada, with his family. During an interview on the program ‘Sept à Huit’, the artist described the move as a necessary period of exile to slow down and rediscover his creative inspiration.

While living in Québec, Marsaud worked on his album ‘Voir la mer’, which celebrates his 20-year career, and also wrote songs for Céline Dion. He noted that the experience of traveling through Canada and experiencing nature provided a fresh perspective compared to his previous life in the Paris region.

The artist also offered a critical view of the current social climate in France. He expressed concern over the increasing visibility of racist discourse, stating that ‘the most racist remarks no longer shock anyone’. He contrasted the social tensions and perceived divisions in France with his experience in Montréal, which he described as a very open and welcoming land with less daily social tension.
