Grand County unveils new public safety and EMS facilities

Grand County is undergoing significant upgrades to its public safety infrastructure. After decades of utilizing aging facilities, the Grand County EMS is opening a new headquarters in Granby. The new station replaces a World War II-era Quonset hut that had served the service since 1970. The new facility, located next to Middle Park Health, was completed on time and under budget, funded primarily through approximately $25.2 million in bonds and certificates of participation, supplemented by grants.

Simultaneously, county leaders have unveiled a preliminary master plan for a modern public safety campus to address long-standing issues with the county jail. The proposed 42,500-square-foot campus would include a 120-bed facility and aim to consolidate the Sheriff’s Office, emergency operations, and medical screening spaces under one roof to resolve operational and legal liabilities caused by the current deteriorating infrastructure.
