Grand Forks authorities seek surrender of dog after woman attacked

The City of Grand Forks is seeking the voluntary surrender of a dog following a reported attack that severely injured a local woman, Kim Godidek. The incident occurred when a bully breed dog from a neighboring property broke through a fence and attacked Godidek in her own yard.

Godidek sustained four gashes to her upper thigh and broke both bones in her wrist, requiring surgery to install a metal plate for stabilization. Due to her injuries, she is currently unable to work, and a GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist with her expenses.

The city is coordinating with the RCMP and the dog owner to determine next steps. While Grand Forks utilizes a breed-neutral approach under its Animal Control Bylaw, officials stated that if voluntary surrender is not achieved, they will apply for a warrant to seize the animal for a professional behavioral assessment.
