Grand Hotel Salerno appeals license suspension over tax debt

The owners of the Grand Hotel Salerno have filed a 35-page appeal with the Regional Administrative Court (TAR) against the Municipality of Salerno's decision to suspend the hotel's operating license. The suspension follows an alleged failure to pay approximately 8 million euros in local taxes and tourist levies.

The legal defense argues that the municipality rejected a 3-million-euro surety bond offered by the owners, which could have facilitated a progressive debt repayment plan while maintaining business continuity. The appeal contends that closing the hotel prevents the business from generating the very revenue needed to settle its debts, calling the measure disproportionate and illogical.

The dispute has also become a political issue within the Salerno City Council. Following requests from 11 councilors for a public debate, a meeting of group leaders is scheduled for September 2 to set a date for an extraordinary session. The court is expected to rule on the appeal between September 24 and 25.
