Grand Ole Opry Membership Excludes 31 Prominent Country Stars

The Grand Ole Opry, Nashville’s historic country‑music institution, had 76 members as of March 2025. A recent list highlights 31 well‑known living country artists who are not members, including legends such as George Strait, Kenny Chesney and Willie Nelson, as well as other Hall of Fame inductees.

The Opry typically inducts three to six new members each year, seeking a generational balance and considering past success, future potential, and the artist’s desire to join. Only living performers are eligible, and there are no posthumous inductions. Bill Anderson, inducted in 1961, remains the oldest living member.

The compilation underscores that many top‑earning and award‑winning country singers have never been invited to join the Opry, despite their prominence in the genre.
