Grand Palais hosts major Paul Cézanne exhibition in Paris

The Grand Palais in Paris is hosting a major exhibition titled ‘Cezanne et nous’ (Cézanne and us), exploring the enduring legacy of French painter Paul Cézanne. Running from September 23 to January 17, the exhibition features nearly 200 works that place Cézanne’s art in dialogue with approximately 60 to 78 other artists spanning from the late 19th century to the present day.

Curators aim to demonstrate Cézanne’s unique position as an ‘artist for artists,’ highlighting how his approach to volume, color, and form provided a foundation for modern art. The exhibition connects his work to a diverse range of influential figures, including Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Piet Mondrian, Andy Warhol, and David Hockney, as well as contemporary artists like Peter Doig and Wolfgang Tillmans.

Claire Bernardi, director of the Musée de l’Orangerie and one of the exhibition's curators, described Cézanne’s influence as a continuous ‘thread’ that has never been interrupted throughout art history.
