Grand Paris Express metro lines 16 and 17 delayed to 2028

The Société des Grands Projets has announced new delays for the Grand Paris Express, a massive automated metro expansion project. The commissioning of lines 16 and 17 has been pushed back to ensure a necessary 9 to 12-month interval following the service of line 15 South.

For line 16, which connects Saint-Denis Pleyel to Noisy-Champs, the first section between Saint-Denis Pleyel and Parc du Blanc Mesnil is now scheduled for autumn 2028, with the full line expected by autumn 2029. Similarly, for line 17, the section from Saint-Denis to Bourget Airport is delayed until autumn 2028, with subsequent sections reaching the exhibition park in 2029 and Le Mesnil-Amelot by 2030.

The delays are attributed to the complexities of integrating the automated computer systems across the network. Despite these setbacks, the project maintains progress on line 18, with a branch connecting Christ de Saclay to Massy-Palaiseau expected to be inaugurated by December 2026.
