US Open announces record $108 million prize pool for 2026

The US Open has announced a record-breaking prize pool of $108 million for its 2026 tournament, marking the first time a tennis event has exceeded the $100 million threshold. This 20% increase from the previous year is a direct response to ongoing tensions between top players and Grand Slam organizers regarding revenue distribution.

Under the new structure, the men’s and women’s singles champions will each receive $5.5 million, a 10% increase. First-round payouts will also see a significant rise of 27%, reaching $140,000. This move aims to address demands from leading players, such as Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka, who have advocated for a larger share of tournament revenues, similar to the models used by the ATP and WTA.

In addition to the financial increases, the four Grand Slam tournaments—the Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and the US Open—have agreed to establish a formal Player Advisory Council. This body will provide players with a direct channel to communicate with tournament executives and participate in decision-making processes regarding the future of the circuit. The council is expected to become operational following the 2026 US Open.
