Take-Two Interactive pursues legal action over GTA 6 leaks
Take-Two Interactive is pursuing legal action to identify the individual or group known as ‘Cyberleek’ following a series of unauthorized Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay leaks. The company has filed subpoenas in the United States seeking user data, including account IDs, IP addresses, and device identifiers, from major technology providers such as Microsoft, Discord, Google, and X.
While Discord has stated it has not yet received a formal subpoena from Take-Two, Microsoft has indicated its willingness to cooperate in the investigation. The leaks have included various clips, such as a beach scene with high NPC density and a video featuring a ‘nudist town’ area. The perpetrator has reportedly used a cryptocurrency-based system to allow fans to vote on future content to leak.
In a bizarre turn, the leaker demanded that fans perform physical protests in leek costumes in front of Rockstar or Take-Two offices to release more footage. One fan reportedly fulfilled this by appearing at Rockstar North’s headquarters in Edinburgh, Scotland, with a leek.
Amidst the chaos, Rockstar Games is maintaining its marketing schedule. An extended look at the game is scheduled to air on Netflix on August 27, 2026, with a subsequent YouTube release. Former Rockstar technical director Obbe Vermeij has characterized the leaks as a ‘nothing burger,’ suggesting they will have minimal impact on the game’s ultimate success.
