Grande ABC region records average of three residential crimes per day

Residential thefts and robberies in the Grande ABC region of Brazil are occurring at an average rate of three incidents per day. According to data from the Public Security Secretariat (SSP), 777 cases were recorded between January and July of this year. Of these, 89% were thefts and 11% were robberies.

São Bernardo do Campo recorded the highest number of occurrences with 246 cases, followed by Santo André with 241, Diadema with 128, and Mauá with 81. Ribeirão Pires and Rio Grande da Serra reported 36 and 28 cases respectively, while São Caetano had the lowest with 17. Although there was a 21% decrease compared to the same period last year, the frequency remains a significant concern for residents.

Experts note that criminals often map the routines of victims through surveillance. While robberies involve organized groups occupying a residence, thefts frequently occur during low-traffic hours when homes are unoccupied. Proposed solutions to address the trend include the integration of electronic monitoring systems across the seven cities and increased intelligence work by the Civil Police to dismantle networks involved in the resale of stolen goods.
