Enrico Mentana to leave TG La7 after 16 years

Journalist Enrico Mentana has announced that he will step down from his role as the host of TG La7 on December 23, 2026. The announcement was made during a journalism awards ceremony in Alessandria, where he received the Franco Marchiaro Prize.

Mentana has led the news program since July 2010. His departure comes as his contract approaches its expiration at the end of the year. While publisher Urbano Cairo had previously expressed interest in continuing their professional relationship, Mentana has chosen to set a specific date for his farewell, noting a desire to spend the Christmas holidays with his family.

Regarding his future professional endeavors, the journalist has maintained privacy, offering only ironic remarks about the upcoming holiday season. It remains to be determined how the leadership and direction of the news outlet will be managed following his exit.
