Grande Prairie students walk out to protest teacher's residential school denialism
Students at St. John Paul II Catholic School in Grande Prairie organized a walkout to protest a social studies teacher's social media activity. The protest was triggered after students discovered the teacher had shared content disputing findings from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission regarding the Kamloops Indian Residential School.
The teacher reportedly shared a post claiming that no bodies were found at the Kamloops site and characterized claims of residential-school genocide as a hoax. During the protest, students carried signs with messages such as ‘Don’t let the uneducated educate us’ and ‘The Kamloops mass graves are real’.
