Granit Xhaka discusses Chelsea transfer interest and Sunderland project

Sunderland captain Granit Xhaka has addressed several aspects of his career and current role at the club. Speaking on the podcast 'The Sports Agents', Xhaka revealed that he rejected a summer transfer bid from Chelsea, describing the interest from the London club as 'a big privilege' but reaffirming his commitment to the Sunderland project. He noted that his decision was driven by a long-term plan to help the club, following a successful season that saw them secure Europa League qualification.

Xhaka also offered high praise for Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris, comparing him to former Arsenal legend Arsene Wenger. He described Le Bris as 'extraordinary' and 'tactically wonderful,' noting his ability to develop young players.

Ahead of an upcoming match against his former club, Arsenal, Xhaka commented on the evolution of the Premier League since his departure from London. He observed that the league has placed a significantly higher emphasis on set pieces, including corners, free kicks, and long throw-ins, as teams prioritize winning over aesthetic play.
