Granite Creek Rest Area opens on Bruce Highway

The upgraded Granite Creek Rest Area is now open to motorists traveling between Gin Gin and Benaraby on Queensland’s Bruce Highway. Completed ahead of schedule, the project includes dedicated heavy vehicle rest infrastructure and improved facilities for light vehicle motorists.

To enhance safety, the project also implemented changes to the intersections where vehicles enter and exit the site. The development is part of the $9 billion Bruce Highway Targeted Safety Program, a joint initiative between the Australian Federal and Queensland State governments aimed at improving road reliability and safety for freight and regional communities.

Acting Federal Minister Kristy McBain noted that the facility is designed to support the vital freight industry, while Acting Queensland Minister Tim Mander emphasized the commitment to making the highway a safer corridor for families and tourists. The program continues to roll out projects between Gympie and Cairns, with 52 additional tenders expected to be released this financial year.
